Betway has the best-built app of any South African bookmaker — but you can't get it from the Google Play Store, and the app you will find there isn't the betting app. Here's how to install the real one safely, and when the mobile site is the better choice anyway.

The mobile site needs no download — open betway.co.za in your phone's browser and you're betting. For the app: Android users download it from Betway's own website (Google Play doesn't permit real-money gambling apps in South Africa), and iPhone users get it from the App Store. Betway also runs a data-free version, so you can bet with a zero data balance on supported networks.
"Betway Scores" is not the betting app. Search Google Play for Betway and you'll find Betway Scores — a live-scores and news app published by a different developer. It's harmless, but it won't let you place a bet or access your account, and plenty of people install it expecting the bookmaker. The betting app only comes from betway.co.za.

Betway's mobile site is genuinely good, which makes the app less essential here than with some bookmakers. Install it if you bet in-play often or want push notifications for results; otherwise the browser is fine and costs you no storage.
How to Download the Betway App on Android (Safely)
- Type betway.co.za into your browser yourself. Not a link from WhatsApp, Telegram, a YouTube description or a search ad.
- Scroll to the bottom of the homepage and find the app download link for Android.
- Tap it to download the APK. Android will warn you about installing from an unknown source — expected for anything outside Google Play.
- Allow installation from your browser when prompted, then open the file to install.

Only ever download from betway.co.za itself. Because the app isn't distributed through Google Play, search results fill with APK mirrors, "mod" builds and lookalike domains. A repackaged betting APK looks identical to the real app while capturing your login and banking details as you type them — the same category of scam as the "Aviator predictor" APKs.
The rule: if you didn't navigate to the download yourself on betway.co.za, don't install it.
iPhone and Other Devices
- iPhone / iPad: Betway's app is on the Apple App Store. Confirm the developer name matches Betway's licensed South African operator before installing — that's how you spot an imitation listing.
- Huawei: Huawei devices don't ship with Google Play, so use the download on betway.co.za or the mobile site.
- Anything else: the mobile site works on any phone with a browser.
Betway Data-Free: Betting With No Data
Betway runs a data-free version on supported South African networks, meaning you can log in, check odds and place bets with a zero data or airtime balance. It's one of only two of the big brands to offer this — Hollywoodbets is the other — and it's a genuine reason to keep a Betway account if you run out of data before month-end.

What the App Is Actually Good At
- Speed. It's the fastest, least cluttered betting interface in South Africa — the bet slip is always one tap away.
- In-play betting. Live markets update quickly and cash-out is easy to reach, which matters when odds move fast.
