About BetSherpa SA
An independent comparison site for licensed South African betting sites. We don't take bets, we don't run games. We verify bookmakers' licences, read their terms in full, and explain how things work in plain language.
How We Make Money (Full Disclosure)
When you open a betting account through some links on this site, the bookmaker pays us a referral commission. This is how the site is funded. Three rules keep that honest:
- Commissions never change rankings. Comparison tables and ratings are set by our published scoring criteria before any commercial conversation.
- Every paid link is marked with
sponsoredattributes and appears on pages carrying a disclosure banner. - We list licensed bookmakers only. No offshore casino ever appears here, whatever the commission offered. Unlicensed operators are where South Africans get burned.
How We Research a Bookmaker
We want to be straight with you about what our reviews are and aren't, because most sites in this category are not.
What we do: we verify every operator's licence against the issuing provincial gambling board and publish the licence number so you can check it yourself. We read the full bonus terms and conditions rather than the headline offer, and report the wagering requirements that decide whether a bonus is actually worth anything. We cross-check deposit and withdrawal methods, limits and stated timeframes against the operator's own published documentation and support material. We track patterns in publicly reported user complaints to identify what actually goes wrong for people.
What we don't do, currently: we do not hold player accounts with these bookmakers and we do not place bets. Our editorial team is based outside South Africa, so we cannot open a FICA-verified account. That means our reviews are built on documentary verification, not on first-hand play. Where we quote a withdrawal timeframe, it is the operator's stated or publicly reported timeframe, not a payout we timed ourselves, and we say so on the page.
We think a licence number you can phone a regulator to confirm is worth more than an unverifiable claim that someone on our team once withdrew R500. If that changes and we start commissioning first-hand testing from South African contributors, we'll say so plainly and credit them.
Our Editorial Rules
- We state the house edge plainly on every game guide. No "winning tricks", no predictor apps, no systems. We debunk them instead.
- Every page shows its last-updated date; bonus terms are re-checked against the operators' published terms and conditions monthly.
- Responsible gambling information appears on every page, and our help page is always one click away.
- Corrections: if we got something wrong, email us and we'll fix it and note the change.
