Lottostar Review: Read the Voucher Clause First

Lottostar accepts more voucher types than any other licensed South African bookmaker — seven of them. It also has a term buried in its T&Cs that changes what those vouchers actually mean, and almost nobody who deposits one has read it.

Verdict

A properly licensed operator with an unusually restrictive deposit term. Lottostar is licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator and offers a deep live-casino and lottery-betting catalogue. But its T&Cs require that the full value of any voucher deposit be played through before a withdrawal is processed — a wagering requirement on your own money, not on a bonus. Our score: 3.6/5. Fine if you were going to play through it anyway; a bad fit if you deposit and change your mind.

The Term You Need to Know About

Straight from Lottostar’s own terms and conditions, in the Banking section:

“LottoStar Voucher (including Discovery Bank), 1Voucher, Blu Voucher OTT Voucher, Capitec Flexi Voucher, EasyLoad, Kazang and whatsoever vouchers LottoStar may add from time to time (‘Voucher’): the full value of the Voucher must be played through entirely. Only once this has been met will LottoStar process a withdrawal of any winnings.”

Read that again, because it is easy to skim past as standard bonus wording. It is not about a bonus. It is about your own deposited money.

Deposit R500 with a 1Voucher, win R200 on your first bet, and you cannot withdraw. Not the R200, not the R500. You have to stake the full R500 through the site first. In practice that means every voucher deposit here carries a 1× playthrough condition that a voucher deposit at Hollywoodbets or Supabets does not.

The same clause applies to crypto deposits.

Is this unfair?

Not exactly, and it is worth being precise rather than outraged. Operators impose playthrough on voucher and crypto rails because those rails are anonymous at the point of purchase and are a known money-laundering route — deposit clean-in, withdraw clean-out, no betting in between. A playthrough requirement kills that. It is a defensible anti-laundering control and Lottostar publishes it openly.

What is unfair is how few players find out before depositing. So:

Our page on 1Voucher betting sites covers the operators where a voucher deposit behaves like plain cash.

Terms transparency scores mid, not low: the clause is published in plain language in the T&Cs rather than hidden — it just is not surfaced anywhere a depositing player would see it. Read from Lottostar’s own T&Cs and licence page on 8 August 2026. See how we rank betting sites.

Is Lottostar Legit? The Licence Check

Yes. Lottostar publishes its licensing on a dedicated page rather than a footer strip, and the numbers check out against the regulator.

What you are actually betting on

This is the part that confuses people, and it is worth understanding because it explains the whole business model. Lottostar’s own terms state that all games are fixed-odds betting events.

You are not buying a lottery ticket and you are not playing a casino game. You are placing a fixed-odds bet with a licensed bookmaker on the outcome of an event — an international lottery draw, a roulette spin, a slot result. The payout comes from Lottostar, not from a lottery prize pool.

That structure is what makes it legal here. South Africa licenses bookmakers, not online casinos, so operators build casino-style products inside a betting licence. It is the same mechanism behind Spina Zonke and Aviator, and we explain it in full in our guide to betting law in South Africa.

Two voucher types we have not covered elsewhere show up here: the Capitec Flexi Voucher (which Lottostar requires you to redeem in full) and EasyLoad. Both behave like the cash vouchers on our deposit methods page.

FICA at Lottostar Is Heavier Than Most

Expect to supply more than the usual two documents. Lottostar’s terms call for proof of identity, proof of address no older than three months, proof of bank account details no older than three months, and the source of the funds you intend to bet with.

The source-of-funds request catches people off guard. It is a standard anti-money-laundering measure at the stricter end of what FICA permits, and it is not a sign that something is wrong with your account. It does mean this is not the operator to pick if you want to be betting within ten minutes. New accounts are also initially limited to banking and profile updates only.

What You Can Play

What you will not find is a real sportsbook. If you came to bet on soccer or rugby, this is the wrong site — go to Betway or Hollywoodbets.

Pros & Cons

Seven voucher types — the widest cash-deposit support in South Africa
Deep Evolution live-dealer catalogue, better than the big sportsbooks
Published bet limits and a clearly stated licence
Crypto deposits via Luno and VALR with stated limits
Voucher and crypto deposits must be played through in full before any withdrawal
FICA includes a source-of-funds requirement — slow to get started
Effectively no sports betting
The playthrough term appears only in the T&Cs, not on the deposit screen

Who Should Use Lottostar?

Open an account if live dealer games are what you actually came for, you intend to play through your deposit rather than park it, and the voucher you have in your hand is one of the odder types — Capitec Flexi or EasyLoad — that most bookmakers do not take.

Look elsewhere if you want sports betting, you want to be able to withdraw an unplayed deposit, or you want to be betting today. For cash deposits that behave like cash, see our 1Voucher page; if you have no bank account at all, start with who actually pays you out.

FAQ

Is Lottostar legit?

Yes. LottoStar (Pty) Ltd, registration 2007/011071/07, is licensed and regulated by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under licence 9-2-1-09467, operating from Mbombela. The licence details are published on Lottostar's own site.

Why can't I withdraw from Lottostar?

The most common reason is the voucher playthrough term. Lottostar's T&Cs require that the full value of any voucher or crypto deposit be played through entirely before a withdrawal is processed. Until you have staked the full deposit amount, withdrawals are not released. The other common reason is incomplete FICA, which at Lottostar includes proof of the source of your funds.

Which vouchers does Lottostar accept?

Seven: LottoStar Voucher (including Discovery Bank), 1Voucher, Blu Voucher, OTT Voucher, Capitec Flexi Voucher, EasyLoad and Kazang. That is the widest voucher list of any licensed South African bookmaker we have checked, but all of them carry the full playthrough condition.

Does Lottostar accept crypto?

Yes, from Luno and VALR wallets only. The minimum is R100 per transaction and the maximum is R40,000 per transaction and per day. Your account must be fully FICA verified before any crypto deposit, and the full deposit must be played through before withdrawal.

Is Lottostar a lottery?

No. Lottostar's own terms state that all games are fixed-odds betting events. You are placing a bet with a licensed bookmaker on the outcome of a draw, not buying a lottery ticket, and any payout comes from Lottostar rather than a lottery prize pool.

Does Lottostar have sports betting?

Not meaningfully. The catalogue is lottery betting, live dealer games, slots and crash games. For soccer, rugby and cricket markets, use Betway or Hollywoodbets.
